Adreine the Germaphobe

After helping me in the kitchen, Adreine and I wash our hands together.

Adreine: "Mom, why don't we use water when we use hand sanitizer?"

Me: "Because we don't have to. We just rub it on and it kills the germs."

Adreine: "But I would at least want to run some water over my hands after. It seems gross not to."

Me: "Why?"

Adreine: "Because then we just walk around with dead germ carcasses all over our hands. That's gross!"

Here's a bit of humor to give you some laughs today. This post fits so very well with my blog, as I always try to share the humor in everyday family life.

These comedians tell their funniest family stories from their own childhood experiences. Times have changed a lot since we were kids. All of the jokes are funny and clean enough for the entire family to enjoy together.

I enjoyed being able to watch these video clips with my kids. Most stand-up comedy has to be enjoyed after the little ones are in bed because of the language and sexual content. I appreciated the fact that we could all watch this and laugh together as a family.

My favorite was Mark Viera's story of his fifteen year old son asking him for an upgrade on his cell phone. The way he and his son interact with each other reminds me of my own brother and our dad. It's funny how teenagers fail to communicate well with their parents... until they want something.

Halloween 2011

I know I'm late posting these, but I've been a bit distracted lately (I'll explain in another post). I know I say it every year, but I think this was the best Halloween ever.

It seems as though my hometown participated more than I can remember since I was a kid. The kids and I trick-or-treated for a couple of hours and still had time to come back home and help with the haunted garage we do every year.


As you can see, Jacob was Luigi and I was a cat.


Adreine had the most fun dressing up of all. First she was a vampire, then she was a frankenstein girl, then she scared the britches off people in the garage as Samara from The Ring (or Sadako from Ringu, depending on where you are from).



I know the photo above is dark. I filmed video, but you can't really see much because of the lighting and the smoke. But I will say that Adreine was the star of the show this year. Adam sat in the corner, darkly cloaked and holding a bowl of candy, but it was Adreine's dark hair and jerky exaggerated movements that sent people shrieking in fright. One visitor even shook her hand and told her she would make a great actress.

Lots of people told us we did a great job. One girl didn't even make it further than the driveway. She ran back to her parents' vehicle yelling, "We're skipping THAT house!"

But we made it worth it for them if they dared to enter. We gave out chocolate bars!

There was only one exception. You know the kids who don't wear a costume, look too old to be trick-or-treating anyway, and are obviously in it only for the free candy.

They got a ROCK!

Adreine said it was the most fun she's ever had on Halloween.

I'm sure Jacob would say the same. He had such an insane suger high, I doubt he remembers much of the evening lol.
