Taking the Kids To Work

I wasn't planning on going to work this morning. My boss went on vacation. He asked me to just drop in whenever I could one day this week and check the mail & stuff.

I wasn't planning on going in until Thursday.

At 7:15 am, I got a call from my boss. He was at the airport waiting for his vacation flight to board. He needed me to send some faxes asap. What did I say?

"Sure no problem! I'll handle it."

Did I ever mention that I'm a pushover sometimes?

I hung up the phone and freaked out for a moment. It was too early in the morning to call for a babysitter on such short notice. I glanced into the living room where the kiddos were engrossed in an early morning Mario Bros game.

"Kids!" I called from my bedroom, "How would you like to go to work with Mommy today?"

"YAY!"

I knew they were gonna say that...

45 minutes later, I unlocked the office door with my two munchkins in tow.

Me: "Now whatever you do, don't touch anything and please BE VERY QUIET. It'll be like a game. You can pretend to be invisible."

Adreine: "But we won't REALLY be invisible, will we Mommy?"

Me: "Sure you will! If you sit still and quiet enough and concentrate really hard, no one will ever see you."

I know, I know, I'm such a turd for that...

They were surpisingly good though. Adreine had her hand-held Nintendo, and Jacob watched Thomas the Tank Engine videos on my iPhone.

2 faxes and 3 emails later, I straightened up, and we were ready to head back home.

As we were getting into the truck, I asked Adreine,

"Now can you use some of your kid magic to make Mommy's license plate expiration date invisible?"

It expired in March.

Adreine: "Sure Mom!"

She squeezed her eyes shut and made the cutest face.

This is my 2nd visit to your blog and I'll tell ya, I find it funny and interesting...a blog worth visiting again and again!

You are so NOT a turd for telling your kids that line...you made an adventure out of something that could've turned out disastrous...esp. w/two little kids in tow! Kudo's for the quick thinking and for having such great kids that they sat quietly waiting for you!

Thank you so much for your comment! I have always said that one of the wonders of childhood is believing in magic. Lucky for me, I never stopped believing in it ;-)

I'm glad you enjoy my posts.
