Adam & I aren't sure what it is exactly. The first time I saw it was early one morning while I was making coffee. As I turned from the counter to put a used coffee filter in the trash can, I saw a small shadow-like figure in front of me. In a split second, it zoomed along the floor towards me and was gone. Quick as that. I didn't even have time to get scared.
Certain that my mind was playing tricks on me, I didn't mention it to Adam at first. When I eventually did, I laughed nervously. I just knew he was going to laugh and tell me I need to lay off the horror movies. But he didn't.
"No, I believe you," he said, "cause... um... I saw it too."
Me: "Really? Where?"
Adam: "In the kitchen, next to the trash can."
Me: "Thats EXACTLY where I saw it!"
He explained to me that he had been using my computer a few nights before. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a dark shadow hovering in the kitchen through the doorway. He said that as soon as he noticed it and went to get up out of the chair, it darted off to the right and disappeared. Spooky, no?
We decided it's best not to tell the kids about it. And we named it Johnny so we can discuss it around them without alarming or scaring them.
"What do you think it could be?" I asked.
Adam: "Well what do you think? You're better than I am about sensing stuff like that. What feelings do you get from it?"
Me: "Well... nothing. At least nothing harmful or threatening."
Adam: "Well there you go. I'm sure it's just fine. He just wants us to know he's here."
I wondered where it could've come from. I wouldn't think we have a haunted house because we are the only ones to live here since it was built. My family suggested I should look up the history of the land here, but I have a different theory...
The house across from ours is vacant and has been so from many years. I've often thought it's such a shame for such a nice house to be left to crumble like that. I've called the Walthall County courthouse and was told that the previous owner had passed away with no will. The house couldn't legally be sold until the previous owner's next of kin has been found, which I assume hasn't happened yet.
And so the house sits lonely and empty.
It doesn't seem that far-fetched to think that if there were any spiritual beings or whatnot residing on that property, that they would eventually become attracted to our house. After all, our home doesn't lack energy for sure. The kiddos run around giggling and squealing. As a family, we've had both good times and bad. But above it all, we love each other very much. Loads of emotional energy here.
And if you watch Ghost Hunters, then you know that spiritual entities are attracted to emotional energy. So it makes sense to me that whatever may or may not be lurking here, it's simply attracted to us as a family and means us no harm at all.
At least... that's what I HOPE lol.

i guess we should break out the ouji board when i get home.
This is a nice story and somehow frightening experience. I have told myself not to read anymore horror/paranormal stories but I've finished this. I am freaking out when I am left alone, thinking all the real stories I have read online.
Loling @ adam! Ouija-ing for our anniversary? How many couple can admit to that, I wonder?
@ RyHeAnNe I do that too. My mother-in-law and I used to scare ourselves silly reading true ghost stories and watching videos of alleged paranormal activity caught on tape. Fun stuff ;-)
