For those of you who don't know what this is all about, Flylady.net does this every summer. Parents who want to participate plan a pretend 'summer camp' for their children. We plan out activities, games, fun projects, and chores too *snicker*. I think it's intention is to plan summer fun so that our kids don't drive us bananas all summer long, but chances are the mommies have just as much fun as the kiddos do. The kitchen becomes the mess hall. The kids' bedrooms are their cabins. All lot of great ideas are on the Flylady website.
So, we named our camp and made a chart for stickers and awards.
I sat down with them and wrote down their ideas for activities. Swimming, definitely swimming! They also thought of hiking at the park, an obstacle course in the backyard, a scavenger hunt, roasting marshmallows, and telling stories inside our tent we will be setting up in the living room.
I thought of things I want to do too. *wink* Like take a bubble bath, read in the sun, and snuggle with my lil ones on the couch and watch a movie while we eat popcorn. Then we wrote down some chores and made them into competition-type games. There will be a sock mop race, a car washing competition, and a feather duster dancing contest. By now you're either thinking, "That sounds fun!" or "These people are nuts!"
We wrote all the activities on little pieces of paper and put them in a bag. At various times during our camp week, we will randomly draw an activity to do. We also have a morning camp routine with breakfast, exercise, and a sing along. And then there's the 'lights out' routine.
I also went out on a parental limb and let them choose the menu for the week. Imagine allowing a 3 & 7 year old to plan the meals for an entire week! I told them to think of camping food. Here's what they told me to buy:
Koolaid
Corndogs
Marshmallows
And 22 cans of Baked Beans... I've no idea why they wanted so many, but they seemed to think it was important.
Every bone in my mommy body is wanting to protest this dietary change of command, but then again it's only for a week. After a little bit of negotiation, we settled on a short list and went to the grocery store. If nothing else, at least they won't have any problems going to the bathroom...
So as I write this very moment, the kids are in their beds dreaming about all the fun that's to be had tomorrow. Click here and read on to find out how much fun they had.
Psst! They don't know this yet, but their Daddy and I are planning a REAL family camping trip after he comes home! They are gonna be so surprised!

What a great idea! I'm sure your kids (and Mommy too!) will have a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing!
We are enjoying ourselves a lot. Not only do they like the activities, but they also love having Mommy play with them. It's amazing; they aren't fighting as much and they are sleeping much better at night than usual.
I am working on a follow-up blog on the fun things we've been doing. It's taking a while because we have so many pictures :-)
