Airbrush Make-up Part Two

This post is my follow-up to my review of the Luminess Airbrush Makeup system.

Well, I received my airbrush make-up kit and literally ran to the bathroom to try it out. After skimming over the instructions, I connected the machine. I shook the make-up to mix it, added a few drops to the machine, and fired it up.

The results weren't what I expected at first.

Turns out, there's a bit of a learning curve to airbrush makeup application. You really have to practice applying it LIGHTLY and in layers. If you get too trigger-happy, then you end up looking like someone used a can of spraypaint on your face. in hindsight, I remember the instructions saying something about watching the instructional DVD. I didn't, so....

Note: You can find TONS of airbrush makeup tutorials on YouTube.

But I had such high hopes for it that I didn't give up. After about a week of practice I became quite good at it :-) I LOVE the feathery, flawless finish! There was only one problem: the color.

Even though I had ordered the 'light' cosmetic kit, even the lightest shade was just too dark for my complexion. The rest just looked orange to me. I started mixing them with the bronzer to create my own 'blush'. And no matter how long they tell you those little bottles of makeup will last, it's not true! You go through that stuff very quickly.

It wasn't long before I was out of the lightest shade and on the hunt for more... and a matching color as well.

I went to Luminess's cosmetic ordering website, and I was floored by their prices! I won't mention the exact price here, but there's no way I would pay that much knowing how little those small bottles last. I was brokenhearted. I didn't want to go back to my old make-up and have to give up my beloved airbrushed perfection.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I even tried watering down department store make-up and applying it with the airbrush gun. I don't recommend this! It looked great, but resulted in me going to the doctor two days later with swollen, red, irritated eyes. Drug store makeup is not made to be misted in the air towards your face.

So what did I do? I cheated. I browsed the internet for an alternate (and less expensive) brand. I found Dinair. With better prices and a much wider array of shades, I was so excited I popped for the largest size bottle they sell (1 oz compared to .25 oz from Luminess). When my order arrived in the mail, I was blown away. It applies more evenly, lasts longer, and looks even better than Luminess!
