If You Can't Beat Em, Join Em

One of the joys of summertime is that my little darlings have the time on their hands to figure out new and interesting ways to drive me crazy.

"Mom, Adreine hit me!!"

"Mom, Jacob won't stop licking my foot!!"

It never ends until they go to bed at night. Lately I feel like a duck trapped in a cage with two mountain lions. Since most of their fights are about senseless, meaningless stuff, it makes it all that much more frustrating.

My only defense is to morph into a mountain lion myself and join the crowd. If I can annoy them enough, maybe they will temporarily forget their mission to annoy me.

Jacob stood next to me this morning as I opened the freezer to decide what's for supper.

Jacob: "THERE'S my lizard!"

He reaches into the freezer and pulls out a blue rubbery toy lizard. I don't even want to know how it got there.

Jacob: "I was looking for that."

Me: "Good, now go poke your sister with it."

He runs excitedly into the living room. I stand there and count in my head... 3... 2... 1...

"MOM!!!! JACOB JUST POKED ME WITH SOMETHING COLD AND GROSS!!!"

Ahh, music to my ears... Lol

Hysterical... "There's my lizard"... words you pretty much don't want to hear in any context!

LOL. If you REALLY want to drive them crazy, start whining back at them randomly. I do it with Hubby every now and then, saying something like "Daaad! The boys are whining again!!!" in the whiniest possible voice.

Thanks for submitting this post to the Fun For Your Friday blog carnival!

For me being able to laugh is sometimes the only way of getting to the end of the day with some sanity. Some of the things our kids do that drive us crazy now are the same things we will miss when they are all grown up.

What's really funny is next time your kid or toddler is whining, lie down the floor and mimic them. Really slap the floor and throw a whiny mommy fit. It will either surprise them into stunned silence, or make both of you laugh.
