Search for the Perfect Skincare Routine

I have a confession to make. I am in my late 20's and still have not found a facial skincare routine that works for me. What I wouldn't give to be one of the lucky women whose family genetics have passed on to them the luxury of great skin. But, alas, I was born with fair complected, sensitive, & acne-prone skin.

I always remember my grandmother rarely wore make-up. And the only moisturizer she ever used was Oil of Olay. She is always giving away cleansers & make-up to others because she tries them and finds that they are too harsh for her sensitive skin. When I was a teenager, she told me to use plain old witch hazel as an astringent/toner rather than the overpriced anti-blemish products you see in stores. I think my favorite skincare habit she passed down to me is mint julep mud masks. I love that stuff!

All of her advice worked great for me.... until I began wearing make-up on a regular basis! The breakouts began and since then I have scrubbed, exfoliated, & steamed the crap out of my face trying to achieve clear, happy skin.

I've tried Noxema (clogged my pores). I've tried Oxy (dried my skin out, my face felt like a raisin). I'm not trying to make this blog sound like a commercial, but I've basically used every product you can think of, all with unsatisfactory results.

So here I am years later, and no closer to finding a skincare routine that gives me the flawless skin I long for. I'm also not getting any younger. Every product I've tried either dries me out or breaks me out. The one product I've found that I love is mineral makeup. It's a little pricey but much gentler on your skin than drugstore makeup.

So I've found myself looking back at the age-old skincare items my grandmother swears by. I have a jar of Ponds cold cream and a bottle of witch hazel in the bathroom. I'll repost this in a couple of weeks and update on whether or not going back to my "skincare roots" has been a positive thing.

So what's your skincare routine like? What products /makeup do you use? I want details LOL!
